Miracle Mile is a vibrant district in the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles consisting of a one-mile-long stretch of Wilshire Boulevard between Fairfax and La Brea Avenues, and the surrounding neighborhoods (including Park La Brea). The Miracle Mile is sandwiched between the Fairfax District & Hancock Park. Major roads include Wilshire & Olympic Blvd (running East/West), and La Brea & Fairfax (running North/South).
Initially developed as a commercial district to rival Downtown Los Angeles, the project proved even more prosperous than anticipated–the area quickly became one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the city earning it the name “Miracle Mile.” Miracle Mile is mostly flat land and central to most of LA. The neighborhood is home to many extraordinary examples of Art Deco, Streamline Moderne & Spanish Colonial Revival Architecture that continue to grace the area.
Miracle Mile contains lots of wonderful restaurants, and new and trendy shopping has popped up in the last few years. You can also find over 15 food trucks parked along Wilshire Blvd. near Stanley every Monday – Friday! In the center of it all is “Museum Row”- home to the gorgeous LA County Museum of Art and the La Brea Tar Pits. LACMA has free Jazz from May – October, and you can pack a picnic with wine and find a spot on the grass.
The City of Los Angeles has designated it a Historic Preservation Overlay Zone, to help preserve its excellent historic homes dating from 1911 forward.
Just southwest of Miracle Mile is Carthay, a half-square-mile neighborhood in Central Los Angeles, California. There are two LA HPOZs in Carthay.
